A Familiar word called CORRUPTION

Corruption..Isn't it a very familiar word since past few decades?..Yes it is...2G Scam..CWG Mess...Mining Scam..Black Money..Land Mining Scam..Poverty...etc. etc..Anna Hazare's strong mass movement and his indefinite fast (not unto death) has surely provided a strong crusade against corruption and has also witnessed the rising power of  youth in this country. People thronged Ramlila Maidan in large numbers and also through all across the globe. The country witnessed the non-violence protest first time in the history of India after Satyagrah movement by Gandhiji. But do we really know what is the meaning of corruption?? What is its root cause?? Who starts it and who ends it (unfortunately there is no ending to it)?? WHY IS IT ON SUCH A HIGH LEVEL IN INDIA?? Why is India still a developing country despite having the BEST BRAINS AND BEST INSTITUTES in this country?? Well there is no ending of such questions and there is no exact answer to it. First we need to understand what is corruption. Why People supported Anna Hazare?? Is it just because of the inflationary pressures that they are facing or something else? I am surely not against the people who protested it even I myself was part of this protest. Many people who protested at the Ramlila maidan didn't even knew about the provisions of the Lokpal Bill. Everyone in some way or the other would have been corrupt at some day in their life. We Indians are part of the 'Juggad Culture'. A person having an important meeting in California at 6:00 p.m. On his way a policeman catches him because he is not carrying his license. He bribes the policeman and policeman let him go. Obtaining a driving license or creating a fake certificate is as simple as flipping channels through a t.v remote. You just need some "smart" tactics and "Juggadbandi" to do it, we are a part of this group only. Firstly we need to understand what is corruption. ICAC (Independent commission against corruption) in HongKong, Eradication commission in Indonesia are successful in tackling corruption. Why do these anti-corrupt measures fail in India?? Anti-corruption programme has three stages: Enforcement, Prevention and Education. India and China are still on the enforcement stage. Prevention is repairing the system and correcting certain processes. A proper review procedure needs to be implemented in India and most important is the Educational factor which means understanding corruption. Corruption is socio-economic-cultural phenomenon. At the heart of corruption lies the disparity of power. Gap between the rich and the poor should be reduced and this can be done by implementing various subsidised programmes, punishing tax-evaders, providing free education to underprivileged, starting rural development programmes, amending  laws(recent one being The Land Rehabilitation bill which would now give higher compensation to farmers in case their land gets acquired by other party). Corruption starts from the higher level(P.J Thomas, Suresh Kalmadi, Maran) and percolates down to the lower level. The solution lies in making our society more egalitarian in more ways than one.
